"For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the Lord."—Jeremiah 30:17 (KJV)
Life can be unpredictable. Some seasons feel light and joyful, while others feel like an endless cycle of hardship. When you live with chronic illness or ongoing struggles, it can be easy to feel like you’re stuck in the latter. I’ve been in and out of hospitals since I was 13. Living with chronic illness is exhausting, not just physically but emotionally and spiritually. Some days, I feel okay, but others, I wake up wondering if I have the strength to get through it. I’ve prayed for healing more times than I can count. I’ve begged God to take away the pain, to make me whole, to let me live like everyone else. And yet, the struggles continue. It’s easy to feel forgotten, to wonder if God is listening.

But then I come across a verse like Jeremiah 30:17, and I’m reminded of something important: God is a healer, not just physically but in ways much deeper than I sometimes realize. His healing isn’t always instant or obvious, but it is certain. Healing isn’t always about a cure. Sometimes, it’s found in the strength to keep going. Sometimes, peace comes in the middle of the struggle. And sometimes, it’s unexpected joy in hardship when I realize that despite it all, I’m still standing.
This verse was originally spoken to Israel, a broken and scattered people needing restoration. Yet, God's promise of healing extends beyond them. He is the same God today, still restoring, strengthening, and healing his children. Our physical, emotional, or spiritual wounds are not beyond his reach.

There have been moments when I’ve questioned if things will ever get better. I’ve cried out in frustration, like my prayers bounced off the walls. But looking back, I can also see how God has been faithful. There were moments when I felt completely alone, but a friend reached out at the right time. The days when I felt weak but somehow found the strength to push through. The nights I spent in pain, but still felt an unexplainable peace. Healing doesn’t always mean an instant miracle—sometimes, God’s slow and steady work renews our strength.
Remembering that healing isn’t just for our physical bodies is also important. Our hearts and minds need healing, too. Maybe you’ve been carrying emotional wounds, past hurts, or overwhelming struggles. God’s promise in Jeremiah 30:17 is for you, too. He sees your brokenness and promises restoration, even when it doesn’t happen as you expect.
Maybe you’re struggling with sickness, or perhaps it’s another kind of wound that needs healing. Whatever it is, God sees you. He knows your pain, and he cares. Healing may not always look like we imagined, but restoration is always at work in him.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I come before you, bringing my wounds, struggles, and questions. Thank you for being my healer, even when I don’t understand your ways. Please help me trust your restoration, find peace in your presence, and recognize your hand at work. Strengthen my faith and remind me that you are always with me. Thank you for the moments of healing, whether big or small, seen or unseen. I place my trust in you and your perfect plan. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Your Turn: In what ways have you seen God’s healing in your life, even if it wasn’t the way you expected?
