I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eatenYou shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord your God.” Joel 2:25-26 (ESV)

Life has a way of shaking us to our core. One moment, everything is stable—our finances, home, and dreams. Then, in what seems like the blink of an eye, everything changes. I’ve walked that road of loss, watching what I had worked for crumble, leaving me with uncertainty and questions. In those moments of struggle, restoration felt far away. The weight of loss was heavy, and I wondered if my faith was strong enough to withstand it.

When I lost my husband, I lost more than just a partner. I lost my companion, my comforter, my provider, and my source of strength. Along with the material losses, the most profound was my will to live. I found myself merely existing, going through the motions of daily life without truly living. I neglected my health, skipping medications and ignoring my regular six-month doctor appointments as if none of it mattered anymore.

Experiencing Divine Restoration Beyond Loss

Like Job, who lost everything—his wealth, his health, and even his children- I found myself questioning, "Why would God allow this?" But Job’s story didn’t end in despair, nor did mine. Job 42:10 (ESV) says, “And the Lord restored the fortunes of Job when he had prayed for his friends. And the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before.” That verse reminded me that restoration isn’t just about getting back what was lost; it’s about experiencing God’s grace in ways I never imagined.

In my lowest moments, I realized that my faith had been tied to what I could see like financial security, stability, good health, and comfort. But when all of that was stripped away, I found something deeper—a faith that wasn’t dependent on circumstances but on God’s unchanging grace.

Finding Restoration and Peace Through Faith

God didn’t restore me overnight. It took time, prayer, and learning to trust Him in the wilderness. But little by little, He provided. Not just materially but spiritually. He renewed my heart, filled me with peace, and reminded me that His plans are greater than my losses. Isaiah 61:3 (ESV) speaks of God giving “a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.” That became my reality.

If you’re walking through a season of loss, I want to encourage you: God is a restorer. What you have lost does not define your future. His grace is sufficient, and His promises are true. Keep trusting. Keep believing because restoration is coming.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for being a God of restoration who sees our pain and meets us in our brokenness. When we walk through seasons of loss, remind us that You are still in control, working all things for our good. Even when we don’t understand, help us trust Your perfect plan. Lord, for those who are weary, strengthen their faith. For those who feel abandoned, remind them of Your unfailing love. For those who have lost much, restore them with material blessings, deeper peace, renewed hope, and a closer walk with You. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen!

Your Turn: Have you ever experienced a season of loss that tested your faith? How did you respond? If you could encourage someone else going through loss, what would you say to them?
