Setting Goals in Line with God’s Will

“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” –Proverbs 16:3 (NIV)

On most days, I organize my day using a planner. I'll admit that I struggle with a slight planner addiction, so I use about three different planners, but that's a separate topic. I’ve been doing this since grade school, and my methods have varied over the years. However, in the last few years, I’ve also included a section in one of my planners or journals (I’ve got a significant addiction to those) where I jot down things I’m grateful for daily. Lately, I’ve been leaning toward setting goals aligning with God’s will. It’s not always easy, and I’m often plagued with distractions and procrastination. There are a few tactics I’ve learned over the years that have helped me accomplish many of the short and long-term goals I set out to reach. I want to share a few of them.

· Align with God’s will–It’s essential to align our goals with God’s will so that our work reflects His values and serves His purpose. This involves seeking His guidance and incorporating principles of love, compassion, and truth into our short and long-term goals. When our goals are aligned with God’s will, it has the potential to uplift, inspire, and positively impact others.
· Seek divine guidance and inspiration–By aligning our goals with God's will, we can incorporate His values and principles of love, compassion, and truth into our work. This not only helps us stay true to our faith but also allows our lives to uplift, inspire, and positively impact others.
· Set clear and specific goals–Clear and specific goals are crucial because they provide focus and direction in anything we seek to achieve. When our goals are clearly defined, we know exactly what we are working towards, and this clarity helps us stay motivated and committed. Clear goals also help us measure our progress and make adjustments as needed. Additionally, specific goals give us a roadmap to follow, enabling us to break down larger projects into smaller, manageable tasks. This approach makes the goal-setting process less overwhelming and more achievable, ultimately leading to greater productivity and success.

Setting clear and specific goals is an essential aspect of our Christian walk. Proverbs 16:3 (NIV) reminds us, “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” This verse emphasizes the significance of aligning our goals with God’s will and seeking His guidance in all our endeavors.

When our goals are well-defined and rooted in our faith, they serve as a source of focus and direction, providing us with a clear target. This clarity enables us to allocate our time and resources effectively, ensuring that we progress toward our objectives in a manner that honors God.

Well-defined goals help us break down larger projects into manageable steps, making the process less overwhelming and more achievable. By committing our plans to the Lord and setting clear goals in accordance with His will, we can approach our tasks with a sense of purpose and determination.

Ultimately, having clear goals aligned with our Christian beliefs not only guides our efforts and keeps us motivated but also contributes to a more organized and purposeful approach to living out our faith in our daily lives.

Prayer: Dear Lord, show me how to daily start my day with gratitude for all you’ve done in my life. Father, please guide me to accomplish much for your kingdom in everything I do. I ask that you direct my steps in my career, my dreams, and the lives I want to impact positively. Amen.

Your turn: What’s your approach to goal setting? If you have any advice for those of us working to streamline our days and to be more successful at accomplishing more, please share!
